OBJECTIVES/GOALS: We designed the Biocascade Exhaled Breath Sampler (BEBS) to characterize viral aerosol shedding among individuals with influenza and other respiratory virus infections. We first aimed to test the BEBS on volunteer COVID-19 cases and report the aerodynamic size distribution of exhaled breath aerosol particles carrying SARS-CoV-2 RNA. METHODS/STUDY POPULATION: From June 15 through December 15, 2022, we recruited 27 PCR-confirmed COVID-19 cases from a college campus and the surrounding community to provide 30-minute breath samples into a well-validated Gesundheit-II (G-II) exhaled breath aerosol sampler. Among these individuals, 17 provided an additional exhaled breath sample into the newly designed BEBS. We quantified samples for viral RNA using reverse transcription digital polymerase chain reaction (RT-dPCR) and determined the viral RNA copies collected within two aerosol size fractions (≤5 µm and >5 µm in diameter) from the G-II, and four aerosol size fractions (<1.15 µm, 1.15–3.2 µm, 3.3–8.2 µm, and >8.2 µm) from the BEBS. RESULTS/ANTICIPATED RESULTS: Individuals with a SARS-CoV-2 Omicron BA.4 or BA.5 infection shed virus in aerosols at an average rate of 7.5x103 RNA copies per 30-minute G-II sample, with 78% of the total RNA in aerosols ≤5 µm in diameter. Among the BEBS samples, 10% of the total viral RNA was detected in aerosols <1.15 µm, 43% in 1.15–3.2 µm, 37% in 3.3–8.2 µm, and 10% in the >8.2 µm size fraction. Based on viral RNA loads, our results indicate that exhaled aerosols ≤3.2 µm contribute the majority of SARS-CoV-2 inhalation exposure. DISCUSSION/SIGNIFICANCE: Our data provide additional evidence that respirable aerosols contribute to the spread of SARS-CoV-2. Thus, our data suggest that mitigation measures designed to reduce infectious aerosol inhalation, such as ventilation and the use of air cleaners and respirators, are needed to control the spread.

Biological invasions represent one of the main threats to biodiversity and a recognized economic burden worldwide; the issue has been included in the conservation agenda such as the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). Brazil is a signatory country of the CBD; however, the number of alien species records in its territory is continuously rising. To evaluate the invasive alien species (IAS) policy in Brazil, we reviewed the legislation delineating historical trends to identify potential gaps and avenues for improvement. We consulted several websites using keywords related to invasions in order to track legal instruments such as laws, decrees and regulations. We classified the documents regarding their main aims with regard to IAS, taxon and environment of interest. We found 85 legal instruments in force related to IAS published in the federal sphere up to October 2021, with decrees being the most common type. Most documents were classified as ‘control’ and ‘prevention’ and were related to all taxa and environments. Two species (wild boar Sus scrofa and golden mussel Limnoperna fortunei) have more specific legislation, probably due to their conspicuous economic impacts. We discuss policy gaps and their implications for the efficient management and prevention of new IAS introductions to the country.

Purpose:
The aim of this study is to examine the utilization of psychiatric services for inpatients with psychosis over a period of five years after first admission, and to identify factors that contribute to intensive service use in terms of cumulative length of in-patient treatment and readmission rate.
Methods:A cohort of 424 patients with psychotic disorders (out of a sample of 2565 first-admitted patients from a catchment area in Switzerland) was examined by means of register data.
Results:Patients admitted for psychosis spent the longest time in hospital compared to other diagnoses, but there was considerable within-sample variation, and most patients (60.4%) had only one in-patient episode. Of the total time accumulated in this sample, 50.5% was ‘consumed’ by 10.7% of patients. Regarding the overlap between ‘heavy use’ and ‘frequent use’ (those 10% of the sample with the longest/ most frequent hospitalizations), only 39.5% of the ‘frequent users’ were also ‘heavy users’ (vice versa: 38.6%). ‘Clinical’ measures were the main predictors of the overall time spent as an in-patient (schizophrenia diagnosis, therapeutic measures, clinical improvement). Concerning ‘heavy use’, homelessness was yet another important risk factor. Sociodemographic variables (age, level of education, living alone) particularly influenced the number of hospitalizations. A younger age at first admission was predictive of ‘heavy’ and ‘frequent’ use.
Discussion:Clinical and sociodemographic factors explain differences in in-patient service consumption among patients with psychosis. Efforts to devise effective interventions have to take both into account, but different measures are needed to address ‘heavy’ and ‘frequent’ use.

Background
Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) shows clear, albeit heterogeneous, cognitive dysfunctions. However, personality traits are not well understood in adults with ADHD, and it is unclear whether they are predisposing factors or phenotypical facets of the condition.
AimsTo assess whether personality traits of impulsivity, sensation seeking and sensitivity to punishment and reward are predisposing factors for ADHD or aspects of the clinical phenotype.
MethodTwenty adults with ADHD, 20 unaffected first-degree relatives and 20 controls completed rating scales assessing traits of impulsivity, sensation seeking and sensitivity to punishment/reward.
ResultsCompared with relatives and controls, individuals with ADHD showed increased impulsive personality traits, were more susceptible to boredom and presented hypersensitivity to reward but normal sensitivity to punishment.
ConclusionsHigh impulsivity traits, heightened sensitivity to reward and boredom are associated with the phenotype of ADHD, rather than being predisposing factors, as these traits were not shared between ADHD probands and their relatives.
